What precautions should be taken during the recovery process after implant surgery?

Assoc. Dr. Elif Öncü shares important rules and tips to follow for a healthy recovery after implant surgery.

The First Days After Implant Surgery and Things to Watch Out For

Avoid Hot Foods: Avoid very hot food and drinks for the first 24 hours, and do not strain the surgical area.
Cold Compress: You can apply an ice compress externally to reduce swelling.
Rinsing and Straws: On the first day, avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously and do not use a straw.
Diet: For a few days, prefer soft foods and avoid chewing with the surgical area. It is important.

  • Smoking: If you smoke, you should quit as it can negatively affect healing.
  • Medication and Care: Follow your doctor’s prescribed medications and care recommendations regularly and correctly.

What are the Normal Situations?

After the operation, slight bleeding, tenderness lasting a few days, swelling and bruising in the cheek, temporary difficulty in fully opening the mouth, and discomfort while chewing may occur. These are not causes for concern and usually decrease in the first few days.

In short: Success in implant treatment depends not only on the surgery but also on your attitude during the healing process.
