The root canal treatment process usually begins with local anesthesia. Then, access is gained to the tooth, infected tissue is cleaned, and the canals are shaped. The cleaned canals are filled with a special filling material, and a temporary or permanent restoration (filling or crown) is applied to the tooth. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, root canal treatment can usually be completed in one or two visits.
