Treatment generally proceeds in three main stages:
- Examination and Planning: The jawbone is examined with clinical examination, panoramic X-ray, and if necessary, tomography; the ideal implant location is determined with digital planning.
- Surgical Stage: Under local anesthesia, a screw socket is created in the bone and the implant is placed. It is closed with sutures.
- Osteointegration Period: It takes 2–4 months for the implant to fuse with the bone (usually 3–4 months for the lower jaw, 4–6 months for the upper jaw).
- Prosthetic Stage: After bone integration is complete, an abutment is placed and a temporary tooth can be fitted. Afterwards, impressions are taken, porcelain crowns are prepared and fixed.
The total treatment time varies between 4–8 months on average, depending on whether additional grafting is required.
