Enamel hypoplasia is a condition characterized by chalky white spots, pits, or discoloration on the surface of the tooth due to disruption of matrix formation during enamel development. The first step in the treatment protocol is microabrasion, which gently abrades the micron-level defective and stained area in the top layer of enamel with compounds containing hydrochloric acid and silicon carbide particles. After the surface irregularities are mitigated, resin infiltration (Icon) technology is applied to stabilize the porous demineralized areas beneath the enamel; after a special drying agent, a highly fluid light-cured resin is impregnated into the pores of the enamel. This resin brings the refractive index of the enamel closer to that of normal tissue, causing the white spots to disappear optically and mechanically strengthening the tooth.
