Fissure sealants are protective barriers that prevent food accumulation and caries formation by sealing the deep grooves (fissures) on the chewing surfaces of molars. Traditional fissure sealants can wear down or detach from the tooth surface over time due to chewing forces. Modern nanofilled composite-based fissure sealants, however, contain microscopic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles significantly increase the mechanical resistance and abrasion resistance of the material without compromising its fluidity. Nanofilled materials, after etching and bonding processes applied to the enamel, penetrate perfectly into the depths of the enamel prisms and demonstrate long-term retention compared to traditional materials, thus minimizing the risk of loss or marginal leakage.
