Due to aging, chronic low-grade trauma, or chronic irritation caused by deep fillings, calcified, hard structures called “pulp calculus” (denticules) can form in the pulp chamber and root canals of a tooth. Sometimes these calculi completely block the root canal like a wall (pulp calcification), preventing the dentist from removing them with standard hand files. In managing these challenging cases, “Endodontic Micro-Surgery” methods come into play. Under high-magnification dental microscopes (DOM), the pulp chamber is examined with 20-30x magnification. Instead of traditional rotary instruments, the calculi blocking the canal openings are removed millimeter by millimeter using special microscopic “Ultrasonic Tips” that only abrade the hard tissue without damaging the soft tissue. Ultrasonic vibration ensures the safe opening of the blocked canals.
