The incisal edges of natural teeth, consisting only of enamel after the dentin layer ends, have a high degree of translucency and reflect blue-opaque tones. To prevent a veneer from looking artificial, this transparency must be perfectly synchronized with the adjacent natural teeth. This process is performed in the laboratory using digital color measuring devices (spectrophotometers) and by analyzing high-resolution photographs. The technician deposits layers of porcelain powders with varying degrees of opacity and transparency onto the edges of the veneer. If monolithic zirconium is to be used, multilayer zirconium blocks are preferred; the inner part of these blocks is naturally more opaque and yellowish, while the translucency and whiteness increase towards the edges, thus mimicking the transitions between natural teeth.
