Why is tissue healing after laser gingivoplasty (gum reshaping) more advantageous than the traditional scalpel method?

Traditional scalpel-based gingival incisions cause mechanical trauma, bleeding, and the need for postoperative sutures, prolonging the healing process. Diode laser or Er:YAG laser technologies, however, simultaneously cut the tissue while coagulating blood vessels and sealing nerve endings. This results in virtually no bleeding during the procedure, maximizes the surgeon’s field of vision, and sterilizes the surgical area. At the cellular level, laser energy creates biostimulation, accelerating fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis. This allows the patient to experience a much more comfortable epithelialization process without swelling, pain, or infection, and enables a much faster approach to aesthetic restoration instead of waiting weeks.
