Why are “Bioceramic Sealers” used in root canal treatment histologically superior to traditional resin-based sealers?

Traditional resin or zinc oxide eugenol-based root canal filling materials are perceived as foreign by the body when they leak out from the root tip, leading to a chronic foreign body reaction and delayed healing. New generation “Bioceramic Root Canal Filling Materials,” however, contain calcium silicate and are entirely “bioactive.” When combined with moisture inside the canal, they harden, producing “hydroxytapatite” crystals on their surface. Histologically, the body does not perceive this material as a foreign substance; instead, it perceives it as its own bone tissue. Even if bioceramics leak from the root tip, they stimulate root tip cells (cementoblasts), actively contributing to the regeneration of bone and cementum tissue (osteogenesis). Furthermore, thanks to their very high pH values, they create a lifelong bactericidal (bacteria-killing) environment within the root canal.
